Michael's Weekend Warriors: Week 7
This week in football had it's ups-and-downs, but mostly questions. Are the Patriots now the Superbowl Champions? Did Peyton Manning find it? Is Ricardo Lockette okay? We really don't know the answer to those questions but what we do know are the Weekend Warriors.
Best Team of the Week
In the battle of the undefeated teams, the Broncos kept their "0" for the Week. The Denver Broncos won the battle of the undefeateds by defeating the Green Bay Packers 29-10. Not only that, but the Broncos made the formerly undefeated Green Bay Packers, look like some scrubs. Defensively, Aaron Rodgers had no room to breathe, let alone throw. Offensively, Peyton Manning looked like Peyton Manning again, and the running game chipped in with a strong performance. The Broncos had an overall good offensive and defensive performance.
Worst Team of the Week
45-10. That was the final score of the beating the Kansas City Chiefs gave the Detroit Lions. Considering that offensively the Chiefs have been pretty bad all year, the Lions should be ashamed of themselves. It was one of those games where one team looked demoralized before the kickoff. Defensively, the Lions were not great, but the main story was the Lions offense. Matt Stafford has been bad, Calvin Johnson has been unmegatron-like, and it looks as if the Lions are looking forward to the next season at this point.
Best Player of the Week
Drew Brees really turned it on against the Giants on Sunday. Yes, playing in a dome helps a quarterback, but 500 yards is 500 yards. Drew Brees, in the New Orleans 52-49 win, finished with 507 passing yards on 39/50 attempts, 7 touchdown passes. While Brees had 2 interceptions, it is no denying that he went off. Also shutout to both teams abandoning the running game and turning this into NFL Street.
Worst Player of the Week
This is probably the first time this player has been in this section. Here's the thing, Aaron Rodgers has only 77 yards passing against the Denver Broncos. Let me repeat, one of the greatest Quarterbacks of our generation had a total of 77 passing yards. True story, I saw that on the television screen and I thought it was a mistake. To be honest, in terms of performance, Aaron Rodgers got no favours from the Green Bay Packers offensive line. Also other players in the NFL looked worse but this was a surprise to see.ￂﾠ
Game of the Week
When you see 52-49, one thinks it might be the final score of an NCAA game. However, that was the score of an NFL game. The New Orleans Saints and the New York Giants battled to end with that scoreline. In the end, it was the Saints that came on top. Granted both teams aren't the greatest but sometimes two okay teams can make a good game.
Surprise of the Week
We live in a world where the San Diego Chargers are 2-6 but the Oakland Raiders are 4-3. I honestly did not see either happening. The focus for me is on Oakland than San Diego. While I actually think Derek Carr is good, I did not think the Raiders would have a winning record after week 8.
Game to Watch next week
I am wondering if the Carolina Panthers can keep this streak going. It will be tough because their biggest test is coming. The Green Bay Packers are still a good team at 6-1. Also the team are looking to bounce back from being embarrassed against the Broncos. Packers vs. Panthers.
