Michael's Weekend Warriors
Week 2 of the NFL schedule is in the books and to quote a wise man "Finally... The Weekend Warriors is back on Fan-I sports." Obviously with all the stuff going on in the NFL in week 1 Weekend Warriors had to take a back Seat. Obviously things are going on I'I'm week 2 as well but don't fret because after an off season hiatus it's back. So let's Celebrate the good, criticize the bad and Laugh at the ugly.
Best Team of the Week:
I know that Seahawks away from the 12th man are not the same with the 12th man, but I really liked what the San Diego Chargers did on Sunday. They played really well in the 30-21 win over the defending Champs and the win wasn't the most impressive part. The stats are very intriguing, specifically time of possession. The Chargers offense, facing on of the best defenses in the league, had possession for over 3 quarters of the game (42:15). In other words the Chargers pushed around the same defense that only allowed Peyton Manning one touchdown last February in the Super Bowl. It was a good solid win that should be recognized.
Worst Team of the Week:
No I am not going to pick on Jacksonville because that's easy. I actually want to put two teams up here, the Colts and the 49ers. I do not expect this from two teams known for resilience, but in the NFL, anything can happen. San Francisco had a 17-0 lead over the Bears at one point in the Game and they blew it. Thanks in part to a 21-point fourth Quarter by the Chicago Bears (and an amazing one hand catch by Brandon Marshall), the Bears won.
The Colts as well had a lead and they blew it. Up 20-6 with 6:43 left in the 3rd quarter, the Colts decided to not play good defense anymore and getting to Nick Foles is overrated. As a result what was once a 20-6 lead went away into the wind and the Philadelphia Eagles won 30-27. Hold a lead gentleman nuff said.
Best player of the Week:
I'll just come out and say it, Jordy Nelson was absolutely beasting against the Jets. 9 catches for 209 yards and a touchdown. What's even more impressive is most of that work came during the comeback (next time hold a lead Jets). Again, I do think that the present day cornerbacks and safeties are limited in what they can do but you can't take that away from Jordy Nelson running all over the New York Jets.
Worst player of the Week:
How about Matt Cassel and his 4 picks. I don't say this about football much because it is a team game but his play costed Minnesota the game. I will even as far to say that Tom Brady didn't do much and had he did this game would have been uglier than it already was.
Surprise of the week:
We've heard of Johnny Football but can Brian Hoyer get some love too? He looked great last week in a heartbreaking loss and he looked great again this week in a comeback win versus the saints. Granted this saints Defense cannot stop a chair but Hoyer looks smart, composed and if he can keep this up maybe Johnny Football will be a backup for longer than I thought.
Game of the Week:
There were a lot of comeback wins this week but the one that was really exciting for me was Green Bay overcoming a 21-3 deficit and started winning the game by the third quarter. The Jets tried furiously to regain their lead but it was to no avail. And I'll say this now, Jordy Nelson needs to get some love as a top receiver in the league because he has looked great these past two weeks.
One last thing, to whoever has Demarco Murray in fantasy you are so lucky. He isn't a top running back in y mind yet because of the fumbles but he gets numbers.
