With this being draft week, I think this is the appropriate time to put out our version of a mock draft. More than likely, we will be wrong on majority of the picks, just like everybody else mock drafts. Its so pointless of having 3-4 mock drafts, especially the ones in February, none of us know what the franchises are going to do, only guess. I don't know any fan that actually take the mock drafts serious but yet the big media outlets put so much emphasis on them. I'm going to tell you now, take our mock draft half serious and enjoy the other half.
"With the 1st pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select........."
Yes, The Houston Texans will not pass up on the most electrifying player in the draft this year. People are scared of his size but just look at what he did in two years at A&M, with that same size, also never missing a game. It's not impossible for Manziel to be dynamic in the NFL, who has the same skill set as Russell Wilson, Colin Kaepernick, and Cam Newton. One player is not going to change the Texans franchise in a year, but Cr'Nack can put some butts in the seats, which is always on the owner's mind.
"With the 2nd pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams select......"
Jake comes from a great football bloodline, son of Hall of Fame offensive tackle, Bruce Matthews, and also cousin of Clay Matthews III of the Green Bay Packers. Matthews comes into this year draft as the best offensive lineman, something the Rams need to build in order to protect Sam Bradford, who has been sacked 120 times in 49 career games. This pick is between Matthews and Greg Robinson of Auburn, but with Matthews being a better pass protector than Robinson, he will get the nod.
"With the 3rd pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select......"
I know everybody is wondering how I have the beast Clowney being the 3rd overall pick, when he is clearly the best player in the draft? To bad I don't think he is #1 pick worthy. The Jaguars need a lot and picking Clowney would be their best bet. I do think Clowney is a great athlete and will help a struggling team but only if he wants too. His unwillingness to do private workouts will hurt his #1 pick chance. If you're college coach tells me you don't like working hard and then you're numbers show that too, it's hard for me to go against it.
"With the 4th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select......"
Bortles is the prototype in this year's QB class. He's 6'5 230lbs and can move in and outside the pocket. The Browns have been terrible when it comes to drafting QBs, last one being Brandon Weeden in 2012, who is now a backup for Tony Romo in Dallas. Luckily for Bortles, he will join a Brown's squad that has a solid defense and is one QB away from becoming a bonafide playoff team. With Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron emerging as good players, Browns fans should feel optimistic about Bortles or whatever QB the Browns choose.
"With the 5th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders select......"
This is my pick for the best player in the draft. Sammy Watkins has been a stud since his freshman year at Clemson. By selecting Watkins in the 1st round, the Raiders will cap off a very solid off-season. Newly acquired QB, Matt Schaub, made a living playing pitch and catch with Andre Johnson in Houston, and with Watkins he can have that same relationship. Watkins isn't as big as Johnson, but he is faster and just as physical. This would be the Raiders best pick since drafting Charles Woodson back in 1998. Dont be stupid Oakland.
"With the 6th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select......"
Robinson is a big boy and will be a great anchor for any offensive line. The Falcons fell off tremendously last year and an offensive tackle is just one of their many needs. I see Robinson as the best player on their big board and I think finding a Tackle should be their first priority. The Falcons also have the option to trade up because they also need a new defensive end and who is the best DE in the draft? If Clowney doesn't go #1 expect the Falcons to make a quick move to snag him.
"With the 7th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select......"
The Bucs play in the NFC South, with Drew Brees, Cam Newton, and Matt Ryan, arguably 3 of the best QBs in the league. A great pass rush is what you need to stop those 3 and Donald can be a great building block for a dominant defensive line. With new head coach, Lovie Smith on the sidelines, I'm sure his first priority is to build the defense, just like he did in Chicago. Donald was the winner of the Nagurski award which goes to the best defensive lineman and rightfully so. Donald was a beast on the D.line for Pitt and has the same type of aggression and dominance as Ndamukong Suh.
"With the 8th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select......"
If the Vikings don't draft a QB in the 1st round, they're letting us know they don't want to win. Teddy will be sitting there for the Vikings, mainly because he poor pro day. If Teddy would've had a solid pro day, he could very well be the #4 pick going to the Browns. I like Teddy and I think he will pan out to be a good QB in the NFL. Out of all the QBs in this class, he is the only one that ran a pro style offense. If Teddy does happen to fall, you can blame it on his pro day because the boy has proven he can ball, putting Louisville football on the map. The Vikings have a great young receiver in Cordarrelle Patterson and I see him and Teddy building a great relationship on the field.
"With the 9th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select......"
Now I'm sure if anybody knows Mack, the Bills do, seeing that he played college ball in the same city. As for the rest of us, you might not know much about the kid, since he played in a mid-major conference. He was an All-American in 2013, and has 75 career tackles for loss and 16 career forced fumbles, you wouldn't know though because Buffalo games aren't on television. Mack has became a house hold name though since the combine, posting a 40 inch vertical and 4.6 40 time. He is definitely the prototype for an outside linebacker but he may need some polishing. I see this as a match made in heaven for both parties, even though he is a Florida boy, I'm sure the city of Buffalo will CONTINUE to treat him like one of their own.
"With the 10th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select......"
Easily the best corner in the draft. We already spoke about the Thorpe Winner as one of our showcase athletes, so you should already be acquainted with him. The Lions can either go two ways with this pick, this is what I'm hoping they do. They have all the offense in the world but lack a good defense, especially in pass coverage. Hopefully, new coach Jim Caldwell, willl make a smart decision and snatch up the best all-around corner in the draft. The other route the Lions could take is drafting Mike Evans. On paper that looks amazing with him an Megatron at wide but it would be a waste of a pick.
