Its a skit on Wale's 2010 mixtape "More About Nothing" where he wanted Kevin Durnat to do a promo for himself but in a cocky way. KD being the humble person he is, didn't sound cocky at all, just casually ran through his accolades like it was nothing. That was only KD's 3rd year in the NBA, already a 3x scoring champ, and considered one of the best players in the league. Fast forward 4 years, KD has been to a NBA Finals, averages 30, and continues to get better as player, now 6 years in, he is on the verge of winning his first MVP title.
Jordan hit it on the nose perfectly saying that KD would sneak through the backdoor because people talk about him but never as him be the next best thing. I think people don't look at him as such because he is the quiet humble one out of the bunch but his potential is crazy. So far in the 2013-14 season, KD has been putting up MVP like numbers. He currently averages 30 points 8 boards and 5 dimes while shooting 50% from the field, statistically, this is his best season so far. If it wasn't for LeBron, KD could have been working on his 2nd or 3rd MVP but I think this year it's his for the taking. In the month of January he has dropped 48 against the T-Wolves, 48 against the Jazz, 54 against the Warriors and 46 against the Blazers today. It was always a debate about who is the best scorer in the league between KD, Melo and Kobe, I think it's safe to say KD can claim that crown. Do I think he is better than Kobe or Melo, overall no, but he is playing better basketball than both of them right now. I still think he needs a post game but at the age of 26 compared to Melo and Kobe who are at the tail end of their primes, especially Kobe, KD might not have entered his yet which is the scary part.
Russell Westbrook only playing in 25 games so far this season, currently inactive until after All-Star break due to knee surgery, KD has been carrying the Thunder and has them sitting at #2 in the west with a 32-10 record. I'm glad to see KD taking over like this because people were actually thinking that Russell was the best player on the team and I'm sure some still do. KD being the humble type, don't demand the ball as much as people want him too, me being one of them, but I also blame that on coach Scotty Brooks for letting Russell and Reggie Jackson look KD off like they have done in the past. At the end of the day, KD is a team player so he isn't going to go out of his way to tell his teammates to give him the ball but I think we are about to see a new KD. I don't think he will change his ways or his game, he will still be the great humble player that he is, but I think he is finally entering that takeover mode that all of us are dying to see. We got a glimpse of it in the playoffs last year when Russell went down in the 1st round with a knee injury but it wasn't there yet. That's what separated Kobe and Jordan from the rest, they had that ultimate killer instinct, and we're watching KD develop that every game. I expect a big 2nd half of the season and postseason for the Humble Assassin
