Well look at what we have here. In the "Group of Death", all 4 teams are still alive. The United States came very close to being the first team in the group to advance into the knockout round but a last second goal by the Portuguese tied the ball game, resulting in a draw. Ronaldo made the assist to Varela who was cutting down the middle. Tim Howard, who played great during the game just couldn't catch up to Varela's header. Still, this was a great game by the Americans, who came back from a 1-0 deficit at halftime. The Captain, Clint Dempsey, scored the go-ahead goal in the 81st minute, with a cool body shot in front of the goal. The superstar Ronaldo didn't have a great outing and haven't so far in this year's World Cup, still scoreless. Up until that late assist, he was looking real shaky. Now in order for the Americans to move on they will need a win or a draw against Germany, if they lose, they will need some help from the point system. #Ibelivethatwewillwin
A Great weekend for the O's up in New York. Going into this 3-game series with the Bronx Bombers, the O's were 2 1/2 games out of 1st place and 1 game behind the Yankees. Friday's game ended 5-3 Yankees, with Carlos Beltran's 3-run Walk off with 2 outs in the 9th inning, make it sting.
O's came back with a fury though in the next two games with 6 home runs from 6 different players. O's outscored the Yanks 14-1 Friday and Saturday, taking the series 2 games to 1. Now the O's will have to get ready for 10 game home stand starting with the White Sox, only a 1/12 game behind the division leader, Toronto Blue Jays (3-game series with the Yankees). See you at the Yard!
Congrats to Michelle Wie for winning her first career Women's Major title.
To me, this is the worst time of the basketball calendar year. The NBA offseason is filled with nothing but rumors, hype, and speculations. I can tell a lot of people love playing GM, trying to put together the best roster in theory but some of yall have to chill. I blame ESPN for this because they have people on their roster that has made a living spewing out nothing but rumors from their phantom sources. Everybody don't fall into the trap but most do. Don't expect us too.
Ever since Melo made his way to New York, the level of disrespect for him has been at an all time high. Even though he led the Knicks to their first division title in 15 years, had his best season statistically on a poor performing team, people still consider him a "B" level player. Well now that he is on the market, the love for Melo has skyrocketed. I personally don't think he will leave New York, and that he just wants to test the waters, and I don't blame. He gave the Knicks everything he had and now its time for them to really show how much they appreciate him.
One thing that has been certain about the World Cup this year is the biggest stars has been just that, stars. This has been one to remember for Lionel Messi, who scored against Bosnia last week, and Saturday, scored the game winning goal in stoppage time with a left footed strike that only he could pull off. Argentina will advance to the knockout round and sits atop group F. They have one more match in group play against Nigeria, who also needs a win to advance into the knockout round. I'm sure Messi and the rest of the Argentina squad will not let up against Nigeria. This being Messi best World Cup so far, I'm sure he wants to keep adding to his legacy with another great performance.
Nigeria played very well against Bosnia and they are closer to making it out of the group stage for the first time since 1998. With this win over Bosnia, Nigeria has placed themselves 2nd behind Argentina. There was some controversy during this match though. First Bosnia seemed to have scored the first goal of the game by Edin Dzeko but it was called back because of offsides. Now Edin wasn't offside but the pass was so perfect, it led Edin ahead of Nigeria's defense. 5 minutes later, Nigeria scored on what Bosnia thought should have been called a foul because of the minor contact between Emmanuel Emenike of Nigeria and Emir Spahic of Bosnia on the right flank before the goal. Emenike used a swim move to get past Spahic and in the process their feet got tangle, which led to Spahic falling and Emenike making the assist. I think it was a good no-call because the contact was minor and they were fighting for position. Nigeria will need a win against Argentina to solidify their spot in the next round, if not, they will need Bosnia to defeat Iran.
The Black Stars of Ghana seems to only play in very tough games and push their opponents to the limit. After Germany defeated the Portuguese 4-0, people were suggesting that they might be the best team in the field, well Ghana really tested that theory. Ghana kept coming at the Germans all match long. They lost the possession battle 59-41 but won the shots battle 20-11, with more shots on goal also.
Ghana and Germany will need at least 1 more win in order to move on but luckily for the Germans, they lead the group in Goal differential. If I had to pick a loser in this 2-2 draw, I would say it's the Germans. Yes Ghana did blow an opportunity to beat the best team in the group, but they still have a chance with 1 more match against a Portugal. The Germans were supposed to go up 2-0 in group play without much trouble but now, they will need a victory or draw against USA to make sure they make it to the knockout round, which I don't think will be easy.
