One of my favorite running backs has found himself a new home. CJ2K and the New York Jets agreed to a 2 year deal worth up to $9 million. The base value of the deal is $8 million and has an extra $1 million in incentives. I think this was a great pickup for the Jets who have already made some major moves this off-season. Even though Chris Johnson is a 2,000 yard rusher, people have seem to forget how good of a running back he is and I blame that on Tennessee. Trying to follow the trend of having a "Franchise QB", the Titans forgot they had a franchise running back in CJ. Since 2008, only Adrian Peterson (8,774 yards) has accumulated more yards on the ground, but CJ has been more effective in the passing game.
This will be a new beginning for Johnson, who has been on a decline in the past three seasons. Even though he has rushed for a 1,000 yards each of those season, his average yards per carry hit a career low last season, 3.9. You can blame that on the fact that he was the Titans' only offensive threat, with no QB, so teams could easily stack the box on him. Now with Michael Vick under center, a quality receiver in Eric Decker, and Chris Ivory as his spell back, Johnson will not have all the weight on his shoulders. I'm curious to see how many people will have the Jets as their AFC favorite.
Well folks, we finally know what the 2014 NBA playoffs will look like. The Grizzlies and Mavericks gave us an appetizer, playing for the 8th and 7th seed in the West. Grizzlies won 106-105 in overtime, claiming the 7th seed. I don't know which team got the better bargain because you either have to deal with Kevin Durant or the Spurs, both of which are on a mission. If I had to choose though I would say the Mavericks are better off with the 8th seed because they match up better with the Spurs than the Thunder. The thing about the Spurs is you have to play perfect team basketball because that's what they are going to do, not to mention defense. I think this will be a very entertaining playoffs none the less.
Eastern Conference 1st round predictions:
- Pacers over Hawks 4-1
- Heat over Bobcats 4-1
- Nets over Raptors 4-2
- Bulls over Wizards 4-2
Western Conference 1st round predictions:
- Spurs over Mavericks 4-2
- Thunder over Grizzlies 4-0
- Clippers over Warriors 4-1
- Blazers over Rockets 4-3
If KD don't win the MVP, I think I might be done with the NBA. To cap off a magnificent season, KD dropped 42 points against the Pistons, 21 in the 4th quarter, and the game winning dunk to seal the game and the #2 seed in the West. Let the playoffs begin.
Tanaka has been nothing short of impressive so far in his inaugural season in the MLB. The 25 year old Japanese pitcher has struck out 28 batters in his first 3 starts, 3rd highest since 1900, Stephen Strausburg has the highest with 32 back in 2010. Tanaka claimed his second win of the season pitching 8 innings against the Cubs, striking out 10 and only giving up 2 hits. Some thought the cold weather in the northeast would effect him, but 43 degree weather with 15 MPH winds did not phase him. The pitch that has batters looking stupid is his split-fingered fastball.
This is what Cubs manger Rick Renteria had to say,
That split is not something you want to sit on. It's not something you're going to be able to handle, but, as it was coming out of the hand, as the guys were coming in, they were saying, `Gosh, it looks like a fastball. It ends up diving."
Tanaka next start will more than likely be Sunday vs. the Rays.
