Baseball season is finally back. Dodgers and Padres sparked off the season in San Diego, The Padres scored 3 runs in the 8th inning, one being a home run by pinch hitter Seth Smith, to defeat the Dodgers 3-1. Brian Wilson came into to relieve Hyun-Jin Ryu, who had a phenomenal opening day, pitching 7 innings, and only giving up 3 hits and no runs but Wilson's debacle of an 8th inning left Ryu with a no decision on his record. Wilson gave up 3 earned runs, 2 hits, a walk, and 0 outs on 25 pitches. Even though I have no connection to either team, I really enjoyed watching this game. The Padres have a great park and the fans were great, "BEAT LA" chants all night. Welcome back baseball.
Andrew Wiggins will make his announcement Monday, telling the world he will enter the 2014 NBA Draft. Wiggins is one of many freshman that the NBA "HOPES" uses the 1-n-done rule to their advantage so they can make money off of their talents. Wiggins more than likely will be the #1 pick but I think he will have a tough time in the league his first few years. I'm not really sold on Wiggins scoring abilities, but his size, athleticism, and upside will make him a hot commodity in this year's draft. Kobe tweeted out the other day that he would not have a problem mentoring either Wiggins or Jabari Parker if the Lakers was to draft one. Lakers will for sure have an opportunity to get one of these future stars.
- Syracuse freshman, Tyler Ennis, also entered the draft earlier this week.
Penguins defeated the Blackhawks in what some think is the preview for the Stanley Cup. Blackhawks were already without Patrick Kane but also lost captain, Johnathan Toews, in the second period after Penguins defenseman, Brooks Orpik, put a big hit on him. Crosby scored his 2 goals in the final 5 minutes of the game, giving him 34 goals and a league leading 97 points on the season.
